I strive to create elegant, refined objects for the home, made primarily from fine native hardwoods. My work aims to celebrate honest and minimal design, elevate beautiful materials, and bring to light the rich process of making. The relationship between wood and other materials excites me: the likeness of unglazed porcelain to chalky white ash, and warm, radiant brass paired with rich English walnut. Interaction between objects themselves and the environments in which they are placed is important in my practice.
I am inspired by the mechanical beauty I find in the machines which surround me in my workshop, and am motivated by the work and ethos of designers and craft workers such as Dieter Rams and James Krenov.
In recent work I present a dialogue between the graceful, delicate nature of a small vessel and a gritty industrial aesthetic.
